Overview

Among the many diseases of aging, dementia stands out for its early, distinct and relentless chipping away at a person’s ability to exercise self-determination. People experience losses of privacy, transformations in their identity, and impairments in their ability to make decisions. This talk will focus on the impact on decision making. The speaker will explain core concepts of decision making ability, decisional capacity and competency with particular attention to the skills needed to assess whether a person may need support in making a decision, or may not be able to make a decision.
