The Capacity-Building Workshop is designed as a foundation program to introduce dementia specific knowledge via a one-day face-to-face small group workshop focused on process. The workshop builds staff capacity to be reflective and to think critically and is tailored to the organisations vision, language and staff needs. The workshop aims to introduce care workers to four themes – planning, assessing, implementing and evaluating and applies these throughout the sessions to case studies and real life situations that are happening within the organisation.
1. Explore the concept of person-centred care and the impact that dementia has on both the person and their community. 2. Explore concepts of the brain and how it functions. 3. Examine how progressive deterioration of brain functions relate to changes in a person’s abilities. 4. Identify how a systematic approach to care can lead to better resident outcomes 5. Explore a responsive behaviour case study and apply the assess, plan, do and check approach to care to identify how this can ensure continuity of care for these residents. 6. Identify communication strategies which build strong community partnerships in caring for residents living with dementia. 7.Define empowerment and explore how this knowledge underpins our focus and interventions with our residents. 8.Identify communication strategies which build strong community partnerships in caring for residents living with dementia. 9. Encouraging staff ownership for workplace outcomes 10.Develop an understanding that all care staff have a clinical and management role to provide holistic care and strong care cultures. 11.Identify techniques for managing workplace relations among staff. 12.Exploring how to take ownership for the workplace culture and how this impacts service delivery and all staff being on the same page. 13.Identify the commitment all need for a continuous improvement culture that provides safe care for those living with dementia.
