What you do at DTA

Coordinate the activities of the Responsive Behaviours Program which offers training and support to participants learning how look after people living with dementia. We have several modes of course delivery, such as a one day or two day program and online learning support on a weekly basis to cover 8 modules in our Lead and Learn Program: Introduction to assessment and management of responsive behaviours in dementia.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

Working with participants to assist them to apply the concepts within our programs to their “real world” approach to caring for their resident’s/patient’s. Helping these staff make sense of practice challenges and how to navigate and expand the choices in care delivery to enable their resident/patient live to a higher level of wellness by being able to do the things for themselves that they are still capable of. It is easy for the person to let go of capabilities in practices settings to make it easier for staff. Our programs and focus is helping staff understand the wisdom of managing their time restraint and keeping the highest level of independence for the person’s wellbeing and ease of life. love all day workshops with participants, getting to know them and understanding their work issues and working with them to develop strategies aimed at improving the life of the people they care for.

How would your colleagues describe you?

Noisy – always on line in webinars encouraging participant engagement in the application of theory to practice during the programs. I am passionate about RB and talk lauder as often technology of webinars find us being loud! LOL!

What’s a usual 'day in the office' like for you?

Our day usually starts well with briefly touching base with our fellow team mates to see how they are going. Focusing on the tasks to be achieved, sending emails to start programs or follow up on participant questions. Getting online for catch up session with participants in the Lead and Learn Program. Some days being on the road to travel to deliver face to face workshops. I love the interaction within workshops and being able to share my experience and also learn and stay relevant by listening to participants sharing their expertise.

What’s your favourite font and why?

Century Gothic, love the openness and curves of the font. Probably explains why I often get, “Be more concise” as I tend to be long winder! Oops did I say that out loud?

Something on your bucket list that you’d care to share?

To walk the Camino again with my wife. We did it in 2015 walked over 1000 k’s in 5 weeks and I would love to do it again. Just letting the day unfold and opening up to fellow walkers is a fantastic experience. We are also planning the Coast to Coast walk across UK with a friend we met doing the Portugal Camino!
